Star Mogul Painting challenge
He looks like me so I have to go for this. There's some pretty unique prizes up for grabs too. It's going to be tough I fear.......
Never mind! Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Which is pretty much the motto of the Star Mogul game. I got the rules when they first came out and I've been wanting to try them out. At least at the end of this I'll have a Salvage Team to play with. The rules of the competition are fairly straight forward, paint a Salvage Team costing not more than 50,000credits and use Alpha Forge figures to do it. Simple!
I shall witter on about my progress here as always. Now, off to choose the figures, I'll worry about the points cost later.
Competition Results
Well, I lost, so that means no Gorgon fighter prototype for me. My Hydrissians will have to use something else I guess. Not a total loss though, I won a $25.00 Alpha Forge voucher which I won't have any trouble spending. I have a lot more crew members to paint and add to my forces.
The Best Painting was won by Supervike
And the Best Crew was won by Ming31

Congratulations to both of them!

How it came to be……..
For a long time the Starship Chashitsu fell through space. It took more than a century for it to reach its destination even though it was travelling at a fat fraction of C. Its arrival went unrecorded; the human crew were not there to see their new blue-green world swing into view on the monitors. The stasis-held colonists were already dust in human shape. As their caskets cracked in response to the pre-programmed instructions the pressure inside exploded each of the three thousand desiccated forms into the hard vacuum that surrounded them. What should have been a warm, welcoming, living ship had shed its life through a gashed hull decades ago.
Majestically the wounded hulk manoeuvred itself into a parking orbit and waited for its inhabitants to disembark.
It was still waiting eighty one years later when a group of salvage hunters and smugglers shot through the system in their new tachyon driven needle. Their instruments detected the Chashitsu but registered it as a relatively small mineral deposit, no different from a tiny asteroid, and they paid it no heed. They were much more interested on the planet it was orbiting and concentrated their attention on that.
Scout craft were dispatched from the smugglers’ ship to explore the planet and register anything worth salvaging. Piloting one of these was a young man called Matakishi. It fell to him to discover the Chashitsu as he swept round the new world in a high orbit scanning for orbital debris and recoverable satellites.
It was no problem to board the derelict, even if there hadn’t been a tear in the hull big enough to fit the needle itself, an old colony ship would not have been even a moderate challenge for an experienced salvage hound like Matakishi.
The ship was alive but sleeping, it didn’t take much to wake it. It took longer to secure a living area to work in and repair some of the decompression damage. Initially it was reluctant to move into a higher departure orbit but within a month its brain was retaught and everything was ready.
The mad plan was to point the Chashitsu towards Barnard’s Star, a mere seventeen light years away, use the needle to accelerate it to as near C as the tethers would allow and release it to streak like an arrow towards its destination. If it survived it would arrive in around thirty years and the crew of the needle would be there to meet it.
Thirty two subjective years later it arrived and the needle was there to meet it. Matakishi was the only member of the original crew that survived the intervening years, nine and a half for him thanks to relativity, and so he became the sole owner of the Chashitsu. The needle was sold, along with a vast amount of cargo from the original colonists’ store in order to buy and install a tachyon drive big enough to accelerate the bulk of the new ship to FTL speeds. A small part of the Chashitsu was made properly habitable and it was renamed the Tea House since it’s unlucky to keep a recovered wreck’s original name.
It’s been a long time since the Tea House took to the stars again, fortunes have been won and lost by its crew and the name of Matakishi’s Tea House has become synonymous with daring, high-risk ventures. The huge ship is currently home to a select few, some of the best ‘tea leaves’ in the galaxy as they like to call themselves.
But, in the vast, empty blackness of its vacuum shrouded hull, there is something else, something that moves and makes the ship tremble; something that isn’t affected by the lack of a biosphere. Something that wasn’t there when the ship was launched towards Barnard’s Star but was there when it arrived.
One day, Matakishi has promised himself, one day he’ll go and see what it is. When he does he’s going to take a very big gun.
Curiosity killed the cat they say, well, this cat's indifferent and still alive. Let's keep it that way......

Here's the whole crew deployed from their lander. The lander is made by Snapdragon Studios and is incredibly heavy, it appears to be solid resin. I bought mine ready painted from Dentatus off E-bay. It's a fantastic model that really fits the feel of Star Mogul.
Additional Crew- Robots

Skippy 1 and Skippy 2 are automated salvage transportation bots. At a pinch their armoured sides can provide mobile cover for a crew member on foot or a fast means of transport for short distances. They have also done some sterling work transporting casualties to safety.
Skippies are available from Old Crow Models.
Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.
