3rd June 2006- Model Shop Closing

Sad news today as I learned that my local Model Shop, Woking Models,
is closing after ten years of pandering to my (quite often bizarre)
modelling needs. I know from bitter experience how hard it is to keep a
retail business going in a small town and Alan Gray
the Owner, pictured above with a satisfied customer*, is to be
congratulated for managing to keep going this long in the face of
rising costs and a shrinking customer base. I think it is imperative
that we, as consumers, should support our local suppliers who do far
more than just sell us stuff. A local Games Shop is a place to meet
people and play games, a local model shop is a place to get friendly
advice and learn new techniques. Both are much better than a Yahoo
group. None the less, all these businesses will disappear if local
clubs and individuals aren't willing to support them (you know who you
are.......). I will miss Woking Models when it finally goes and I wish Alan good luck for the future.
Until
then, however, there's a 25% sale on and so I shall be rummaging
through the stock like the rest of the vultures and stocking up on all
kinds of things that I don't really need.

*Oh,
alright, it's really his wife. We couldn't find a female customer to
stand next to him. Actually, we couldn't find a female customer at all.
Final Day
Saturday 26th August 2006 was the final day for Woking Models. I wish Alan the best of luck in his new life and hopefully we'll stay in touch.
