Jet Set Radio Future
These
are screenshots of one of the early levels of Jet Set Radio Future, an
X-Box game. The picture at the top is of the actual Tokyo bus depot
that was used as a model for this level.

I’ve wanted to do a tabletop game of this for a long time,
the setting is very visual, the characters are cool and the missions in the
levels translate well into a miniatures game.
My initial thoughts are open to change of course but so far I’ve come up with the following.
Graffiti
will be like ‘post it’ notes so that it can be removed as it is
‘over-sprayed’. Since you can only spray specific areas Velcro might be
an option, with pads mounted on the buildings ready to accept tags.
There are other things to do in the game, races across the
city, searching for hidden items, defusing bombs and keeping clear of the
Police all play their part as do many other sub quests and games.

Completing
spraying missions will allow ‘Graffiti Souls’ to be placed in
inaccessible areas that must be collected. Reaching difficult areas
will be achieved with dice based skill checks.
Buildings
will be solid, unlike my usual buildings. The interiors are not needed
and being solid will allow the placement of balconies and rails etc.
that can be skated on. Power lines will join the buildings that can
also be used as grind rails.
The players will take the part of rival
gangs looking to ‘own’ the area by attaining tag totals. Combat will be
a simple case of knocking your opponent down and moving on, like the
video game.
Figures will be based in a way that will allow them to
be placed on as much of the scenery as possible; I’m considering
magnets for this.
The music from the game is a particular favourite
of mine too, I am designing scenarios based on some of the more bizarre
lyrics.
The new buildings from Bouldings Mouldings were a big inspiration for this.
