Boxer Rebellion

This is a report of a Boxer Rebellion game fought using my own 'The Natives are Restless Tonight' siege rules.

The Game

Small 4' x 4' table. Because the compound was bigger than I intended at the start of the project I positioned it diagonally and the Boxers entered at table corners rather than edges.

The defenders are placed in position by Kevin, (a wargaming novice).

The first Boxers emerge from the surrounding area, ready to strike a blow for freedom.
Boxers were controlled by Giro for this game, (not a wargaming novice hehe)

After a run of favourable cards the Boxers managed to batter down the main gate to the compound and fall murderously on the small Royal Marine gun crew.
Although the crewmen died horribly the plucky lads dragged two boxers down to hell with them.

The Russian contingent sent a hail of bullets into the Boxers in the compound killing all but one of them. The lucky survivor fled the scene.

A second Boxer attack was beaten back by the Royal Marines holding the wall.

The defenders' relief at the lull in hostilities was short-lived as more Boxers appeared in all four corners.......

A large band of Boxers jump the low wall and attack the Japanese who are defending one of the buildings.
They are met with the bayonet and driven off after killing two brave defenders.

The Russians beat off an attack but lose two men.
The Boxers retreat leaving four dead behind.

A large grouping of Boxers starts to build up as a long melee continues on the German part of the wall. The Royal Marines rush to help and suffer heavy casualties as the Boxers are pushed back.
Undeterred the Chinese surge forward again.......

Killing the remaining Seebattalion and forcing the Royal Marine Officer to retreat the surviving Boxers gain the firestep inside the compound. They are much weakened by the fight however.....

The U.S. Marines, low on ammunition and already suffering casualties from Chinese fire as they defended the Mission house decide to charge the invading Boxers who have set upon the lone British officer and killed him.
The expected help from the defenders' machine gun never arrives as Chinese rifle fire from the gate kills the brave volunteers who had replaced the original crew.

Many Boxers die in the fight and the rest flee allowing the defenders to reclaim the perimeter.
However, a check in the stores shows that the ammunition is gone. The order to fix bayonets is given.
The relief column has been sighted and is not far away, there is hope......

The remaining defenders congregate in one of the buildings hoping to last out until relief arrives.....
Sadly, a massed attack by three separate groups of Boxers on the building sees them massacred to the last man..........
