I've now managed to play out two scenarios using the stock Crom rules. In both scenarios my heroes have faired very poorly against standard 2/2/0 minions.

In my first scenariosm, though the heroes won, they seems to fair very poorly even against poorly played and handled minions. My 10 Dice hero only had 2 left.

In the second scenario, our 12 Dice hero was taken down to 3 Dice in a single round of combat when he was attacked by three minions. Had he not had unspent Movement dice to soak the hits, he'd have been taken out that turn.

I am pretty sure I'm playing minions correctly. They activate as a group but act as individuals.

If they get the jump on a hero, he seems done for.

You're playing your minions correctly, it's the heroes you're having problems with.

Heroes need to be proactive and attack and kill minions before they can do real damage. Heroes also need to plan ahead and keep some combat dice handy if they think they are going to be engaged. A group of 3 minions against an unprepared hero will kill him/her automatically.

However, a hero who gets caught out like this only has themselves to blame, every hero can manoeuver away from minions pretty easily if they give it some thought. They can go first and they can pick their fights and ensure they win most of them. In short they have all the advantages.

Players need to give some thought to what they do in a turn, some can't get away from 'it's my turn so I must use all my dice' and they tend to die quickly. others are a little more frugal with their spending and survive much longer.

Pick your fights, win them, move on. You don't have to kill a whole group of minions when you attack, killing two out of four weakens them severley and increases your chances of survival greatly. Don't be afraid to burn dice to ensure a kill or to ensure you move out of reach.

Some people take a while to get the hang of it but playing in some multi player games lets them see what others do and they tend to improve quickly.

I have some very difficult scenarios devised for BLAM this weekend, hopefully the reports will prove good illustrations of how people overcame the challenges.

I've just read your report :)

In a proper combat situation it seems your heroes did their job commendably but in a straight dice off they didn't afre so well. I think this illustrates quite well how there's more to the comabt than just rolling the dice.

Minions have been changed, well everyone's been changed with the 'no ganking' rule, but minions particularly cannot guarentee to kill an undefended hero any more.
