I've just received my self-birthday present, two boxes of Wargames Factory's Shock Troopers and what a bargain they are.

For a start you get 18 Troopers - easily as good as GW Imperial Guard and the same size, for just £14 (good old Wayland Games).

When I opened the box I found six sprues each with all the kit for three troopers. But shock of shocks each sprue has 14 variant heads!! I now have enough heads to do the troopers and convert all of my Imperial Guard in order to create my own Traitor Guard regiment.

Six of the heads are the ones in the pictures with WWI style German Helmets, four are helmetless but with respirators and what looks like an exposed brain - very chaotic, one is in a respirator but with a German forage cap, one is just a head witha topknot, but the last is like a squid/cthulu.. really excellent :) There are enough weapons to give you a nice variety.

My only criticism is that they come with moulded on little footbases, the way metal figures used to. I have lots of spare 20mm round bases, but some people could be left having to buy these.

The sculpting and casting is clean with only the smallest of mould lines and no flash.

As you can tell I'm pretty excited about these. I can now start building The Sybillant Chorus, a traitor guard regiment based on the IG Codex, but led by a Primaris Psyker - The Sybil Nimue, and supported by one or two Psyker battle Squads. The idea behind this, in brief, is that a regiments Psykers have been seduced by Tzeentch and they've led their entire regiment over to the wyrd side :D

I'll keep you informed on how it goes.
