Hi. I like the look of the Crom rules. Full of Howard's flavour. I've been mucking around with similar concepts for a set of fantasy skirmish rules. Not the same as yours. I was thinking2 dice pools (active (combat and movement) and reactive (morale and defense) plus toughness (number of successes needed to wound). Have you considered toughness as a variation? Too complex for little gain?

You mean something tough would need two hits delivered to inflict a single wound? Or maybe more for something tuely horrible? This is an option but I wouldn't use it for run of the mill stuff, maybe at the end of a string of encounters as the climactic battle though. In Phoenix in the Sword Thoth Amon's creature is (almost) impervious to wounds unless you have the inscribed weapon of the title. Toughness bypassed by a particular quested item might work well.

Thanks. Yes it was along the lines of the bigger stuff/more heavily armoured = tougher = two successes to wound and so on. I'd also toyed with failed roles (say multiple 1s) causing a problem for the thrower (for example, roll 3+ attack dice get 3 x 1 and lose a die from the pool - perhaps a wound (a defensive nick)) but I'm not sure the complexity is worth the effort. I also think your system is superior for combat. I like the simplicity of what you have done more than what I've done. Crom is easy to remember and use but forces players to make lots of decisions = a good game. I'm interested in your magic rules expansion - please post it soon. I think the rules are pure Conan. Good job.

Thank you. I'm pulling together ideas about what magic can do and ways of representing the strengths of horrid beasties without just giving them huge dice pools. I'll present new ideas as soon as there's enough to warrant it. Several people have promised to give the rules a go over the coming weeks and I'm anticipating some interesting feedback from them too. It's all full steam ahead

You must hurry - how's a man supposed to steal your ideas? What ideas do youalready have for the horrid beasts? My own ideas were:
Anyway, I'm looking forward to your results with considerable interest.

At the moment I'm working out a way to do hordes, big masses of things, like zombies, that are dangerous en masse but not individually. I'm also expanding the magic to allow for more effects and fine tuning the rules for natural dangers like spreading fire.

Nice to see the cards up. I see that fire is amongst them. Any rules for it yet? I'm trying out the rules again tomorrow.

Nothing finalised, working on it expanding and then removing the burnt out part behind it so it doesn't just engulf everything. has to be manageable though, no book keeping.

Hi. I like all the new Conan stuff. How about another game report? I'd love to see your newly built scenery in action. As I've commented elsewhere, I love the sitting skele.

There'll be some pics of the games I run at my tea Party, before that nothing I'm afraid as I dont want to ruin the fun for the players. I'm making new buildings for it and they'll be revealed on the day.
