I'm on a bit of a RPG thing at the moment. I've been playing in a friend's Savage Worlds Pulp game, just running throught he published adventures, and it's been a lot of fun.

Previously I've run hundreds of games, my Ars Magica campaign ran for 10 years, and I ran Cthulhu regularly. But more recently I've not run anything apart from some Hard Nova II which I used to play through old Star Frontiers modules. 80s games were written for a different kind of player and we had a good laugh at some of the forced situations we encountered :)

However, I've just purchased Deadlands Reloaded and a couple of other games and other members of my little group own Solomon Kane and Pirates. It looks like Savage Worlds has made us take to role playing again rather than board games. I'm loking forward to the coming games.

Other games I'm interested in are Eclipse Phase (got a pdf) and A Dirty World which I've recently ordered from Leisure Games. I also bought Noctum because Mongoose had a sale on but I doubt I'l lplay it, it's more a reading book for ideas. The big one I'm planing to get in the very near future is Savage Worlds Red Sands so I can run all my old Space 1999 adventures with a system I understand.

Any other realy good ones out there? Not interested in standard fantasy, D&D leaves me completely cold.

College was the last time I played a pen/paper/ real live people RPG. I've heard nothing but good things about Savage Worlds though, and purchased it because it supposedly translates well to a table top miniatures game.

I also bought a copy of the RPG "Ex Machina". Built on the Tri-Stat Core rules, I read through it for atmosphere and to get in a cyberpunk  happy place. Very cool book - don't know how well the mechanics work however. Ended up passing it on to a friend.

Deadlands reloaded arrived today and yesterday I ordered Beat to Quarters which is a Napoleonic naval RPG, I'll get the Peninsular land version later on once funds are available in the games budget.

I dread to think how many role playing games i have own/sold/given away/dumped,everything from the original "red box dungeons and dragons",to the "original boxed call of cthulhu".I even had a horror role playing game called "blood" with a rolemaster type damage list.I even had all the original dungeons and dragons hard back books, where the source book "dieties and demi gods" had all the cthulhu monsters listed in it before sandy peterson threated to sue.

I also remember how role playing games came in boxes, and were spread over 2-3 books ie Dungeons masters guide/players guide/background/monsters.Amazing how this article brought back alod of memories ha ha ha ha.

Anyone remember all the lord of the rings books in paper back and the Rolemaster rpg system that it used, also the champions rpg system which i have always hated by the way!!.

Dam theres just to many to remember to be honest,i was constantly buying and selling, then finally i got rid of the lot in a massive sell!!.I must have owned about 50-100 books not counting supplements or source books!!.

I even had nearly all the Palladium books, all the role master, all the dungeons and dragons and all the cthulhu books!!.Bloody hell the memories are flooding back now!!.I can remeber "Games workshop" on the moor in sheffield, when they sold board games/miniatures by other companies/role palying games  by other companies.

Then it all the prices went up,eveything went hard back and loads of kitchen sink companies disappeared, thats when the rot set in for me to be honest, look at "vampire/werewolf" books by white wolf, they just seemed to reprint everything new every month!!.Then expected fans to buy all the books again!!.Glad i got out of it to be honest, the only thing i sold off was the original "warhammer 40,000 rouge trader rule book".This was the first wargamming rule book i bought and was highly impressed with it!! (i later recovered it on Ebay for a tenner in mint condition).

I have not looked at everything new for ages, the prices put me off now £25-40 a book, not when i was paying something like £5 for a full rpg game.

So "CHEERS FOR CRAIG" HIP HOORAY/HIP HOORAY/HIP HOORAY

Cheers all Tony:)

I started roleplaying in 1978 with the purchase of the monochrome blue D&D book (and the dungeon geomorphs levels 1-3 that came in the same box).

Call of Cthulhu and Ars magica have been my long running passions but other systems that are innovative and/or interesting always interest me. I've spent many happy hours playing FGU games. Aftermath, Daredevils, Wild West and Flashing Blades were all firm favourites back in their day.

Recently I ran through all my Daredevils modules again but the rules are clunky by today's standards and tend to get in the way of play.

I much prefer to write my own adventures. Weird West ideas are germinating as we speak.

I had 2-3 versions of "call of cthulhu" the boxed version with the world map,the hard back games workshop version.I can not remember the other versions that came after,i think there were 4-5 reprints by "chasioum" which put me off buying any more. Also i lost interest in H.P Lovecraft and his writings,my brother john even nicked  his biography by "Le sprague de camp" when i mentioned i would like to get it which was interseting to read at the time.It all seemed to fit in with my interest of "H.R Gigers" artwork and his alien work.We had some brilliant role playing sessions with COC.

Again i just moved on from his writings, and also his outlook that man was without hope or salvation was to dark.

I did like all the "kitchen sink" role playing games that appeared, but then they seemed to go hard back and polished paper and started charging £20-25 a book which was really annoying.

Everything i had went within a couple of months in the early nineties, the only books i regreted selling were my "mutant chronicles" books both wargamming and role playing. Most of these i recovered on Ebay for fair prices which was brilliant. But that is about it with rpg books, after this i felt i should either write my own or follow something written by others but were offered free (ie Craigs rules:)".

For me Rpgs have come to an end sadly, but theres enough good memories to keep me happy:)

Cheers Tony:)
