I bought a WI recently because i was in it, haven't bought an issue since #299, and I was impressed but not impressed enough to buy it regularly. I hate Miniatue Wargames as, even with the new editor, it still seems to have an embargo on photographing good looking figures and scenery. I had a subscription to Battlegames for the first 3 years but I found I wasn't reading it when it arrived; however, now Henry has added a pdf option I will be resubbing after the expense of Salute is over, Battlegames has the articles I enjoy reading the most and a pdf means i can have it on my ebook at work. I also buy the Ancible as it's new and quite interesting, as long as I find I'm reading what's in it I will keep getting it. I used to love downloading Fictional Reality but that's stopped now To be honest, after years of reading wargames magazines, I find the contents repetative. 'How to' articles are ok sometimes but often cover the same ground and anyway, I like doing things my own way, not copying others. Articles on battles are not usually interesting, historical settings and events are covered elsewhere much better (history books for instance). I like articles about how people staged battles and I like articles on why people chose to do things a certain way; sadly, there's few articles like this around. | |

Totally agree with there Paul, about the magazines beening repetative.I have found with WI that since they updated the mag,its been all about ECW/ACW and ancients, while not a bad thing in many respects,it can be very tiresome. Also this aspect of promoting "Flames of war figures/vehicles" through it as well is annoying,i dropped there range ages ago due to cost. I know that WI tried to get some sci-fi/modern interest into it but this died a death quickly and has never been repeated (enough information elsewhere).
For the moment i will continue to get WI because when i have finished work its nice to pick it coming through town, the only thing that will stop me getting it is the price at the moment its £4 any higher i will call it a day with it.
Thank you for the heads up on "Battlegames/Ancible" will check them out:)
