I just wondered if you'd seen the set of rules called "Abduction" by Gomi Designs (I think)? I got mine via Ground Zero Games along with their hillbillies and some Aliens! The rules look great, they're very simple and quick play - I don't think you'd have any problem with them working for 'bases' or groups rather than single miniatures!
