I first came across the 25mm Hordes of the Things Rock Army on eBay and noticed that Matakishi had won it. I had always thought it was a clever idea and late last year I decided to finally make one in 15mm. This had two purposes in mind. One, it would form part of my Garden Wars HoTT theme and two, it would show the junior members at our club that you don't need to buy overpriced plastic toys to play a game.
I started looking around for rocks or gravel that would suit my purposes. Generally this would be done during one of my walks. The only rock that I consciously went looking for was the rock used as the Behemoth or Hero. To be honest I just copied Matakishi's list more or less and added a few element types just for the fun of it, one being the stands of Hordes or Rubble Rabble. The sneakers or 'Rocks disguised as Bricks' are made from foam. One of the warband stands, the Limestone Warriors, were designed with the Celtic Warriors who would add lime to their hair to make it stand up in mind.
I had considered doing a 'Rock Concert' as a stronghold at one stage but settled on the 'Stoned Circle" instead. I may still add the concert at a later stage. The mushrooms were sculpted by me out of greenstuff as were the flowers. The leaves are from Birch Seed pods as are the bees.
